چکیده
Background: Variation in Renal restive index (RI) values measured using duplex Doppler ultrasonography has been shown to correlate with the degree of renal impairment in acute renal obstruction ,diabetic and hypertensive nephropathy patients. Aims and objectives: The primary objective of this study was to determine whether the intrarenal resistive index can be used as a predictor of progression of disease in patients with unilateral acute renal obstruction and chronic medical renal diseases, especially diabetic and hypertensive nephropathies. We investigated the role of RI in unilateral acute renal obstruction , Diabetic and Hypertensive patients. Methodology: A total of 120 patients were included in this study. 50 patients with unilateral acute renal obstruction , 35 each of diabetic and hypertensive patients. Renal segmental arterial RI was measured by duplex Doppler ultrasonography. Results and conclusion: Regarding renal function outcome, the RI values are relatively high in complete and proximal obstruction by renal calculus compared to distal and partial obstruction. In the case of nephropathies, RI value increase as the duration of the disease progresses and with complications. In conclusion,RI measured using duplex Doppler ultrasonography can be used as an independent predictor of renal function.

Assessment of the individual renal function in chronic unilateral renal obstruction using functional CT as compared to 99mTc-DTPA renal scan
Introduction: The selection of optimal treatment of obstructive nephrouropathy requires information about the functional status of each kidney. Nuclear renal scanning objectively measure differential renal function, multiple studies have demonstrated the role of assessment of renal perfusion and GFR with triphasic CT. The aim of this study is to assess the role of CT based on renal parenchyma...
متن کاملComparison of Diagnostic Value of Intrarenal Doppler Indices and Microalbuminuria for Detection of Diabetic Nephropathy in Type II Diabetic Patients
Background & Aims: Diabetes is the most common cause of renal insufficiency throughout the world. The main cause of renal failure in diabetic patients is microvascular endothelial injuries that is secondary to atherosclerosis and ischemia. The efficacy of renal Doppler indices such as resistive index (RI) and pulsetile index (PI) for the evaluation of intrarenal arteries has been shown. This st...
متن کاملRenin-angiotensin system and unilateral ureteral obstruction
Unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) is a clinical scenario that leads to obstructive nephropathy. UUO alters the expression of many mediators in the ipsilateral kidney. Renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is involved in UUO. Angiotensin II (Ang II) and angiotensin 1-7 (Ang 1-7) as the main arms of RAS influence kidney function which may alter by UUO. Ang II via Ang II receptor subtypes I (AT1R) ...

PURPOSE To determine the role of duplex Doppler ultrasonography (DDU) in patients with acute unilateral renal obstruction. SUBJECTS AND METHODS A total of 161 patients with suspected renal colic due to urolithiasis were evaluated by DDU followed by intravenous urography (IVU). The mean intra-arterial resistive index (RI) and the difference of mean resistive index between both kidneys (delta R...
متن کاملRelationship between Intra-renal Arterial Resistance Index (RI) and Albuminuria in Diabetic Patients
OBJECTIVE: Diabetic nephropathy is a major diabetes complication. Arterial resistance index (RI) may predict deterioration in kidney function. This study was designed to compare renal arterial RI in different stages of renal function according to glomerular filtration rate (GFR), serum creatinine level and proteinuria. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a cross-sectional study on 81 diabetic patients i...
